Read Every Word

Gail Sheehy has done the best (I am tempted to say the only) investigative reporting on 9/11 since the establishment of the commission. Her new article describes, in wrenching detail, the hitherto-unrevealed conversations that took place that morning among the airlines, the F.A.A., and the personnel on the hijacked flights.

Read all the way through to find out who was responsible for changing, in June of 2001, "the decades-old procedure for a quick response by the nation’s air defense" -- so that NORAD’s military commanders no longer had the authority to scramble fighter jets. (Link courtesy of Atrios.)
