David Corn of The Nation has taken up regular blogging at his website, catchily titled The Lies of George W. Bush. Here he lays out the known details of the various communications among Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, al Qaeda, and the Saddam regime, in the process dismantling the President's disingenuous remarks at a press conference yesterday:
Bush: Zarqawi. Zarqawi is the best evidence of connection to al Qaeda affiliates and al Qaeda. He’s the person who’s still killing. He’s the person – and remember the email exchange between al Qaeda leadership and he, himself, about how to disrupt the progress toward freedom?
There was a slight problem with the president’s response: the “email exchange” he mentioned suggests the exact opposite of what he claimed. And, by the way, it was not an email exchange. This is what happened.
